Role Summary
The Senior Snowflake Data Engineer architects, builds, and governs enterprise analytics platform on Snowflake. The role combines hands-on ELT pipeline development, data-model design, and platform administration—ensuring resilient, cost-efficient, and secure data products for marketing, revenue-management, and guest-experience teams.
Key Responsibilities
Data-pipeline engineering
• Design and implement scalable ELT workflows using Snowflake SQL, Snowpipe, and Python/Scala orchestration (e.g., Airflow, dbt).
• Optimise load patterns, partitioning, clustering, and materialised views to meet sub-second query SLAs.
Data-modelling & governance
• Develop and maintain dimensional & data-vault models aligned with Carnival’s reservation, loyalty, and finance domains.
• Enforce naming standards, lineage documentation, and data-quality rules (Great Expectations, dbt tests).
Platform administration
• Configure and monitor Snowflake accounts, warehouses, roles, and resource monitors to balance performance with credit consumption.
• Implement security best-practices: RBAC, network policies, data-masking, and external tokenisation.
DevOps & CI/CD
• Build automated deployment pipelines (GitLab CI/Jenkins) for schema migrations, dbt packages, and stored-procedure releases.
• Integrate observability tools (Snowflake Query History, Prometheus, Grafana) for proactive performance tuning.
Collaboration & mentorship
• Partner with data scientists, BI developers, and mainframe integration teams to ingest DB2/CICS data via Kafka, Fivetran, or custom connectors.
• Coach junior engineers on Snowflake features, cost-governance, and SQL-performance tuning.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
6 + years in data engineering with 3 + years focused on Snowflake.
Advanced proficiency in Snowflake SQL, Snowpipe, Streams/Tasks, and time-travel.
Hands-on experience with at least one orchestration framework (Airflow, dbt, Prefect).
Strong Python or Scala skills for data transformations and automation.
Solid understanding of dimensional, data-vault, and star-schema modelling.
Expertise in CI/CD for data solutions and Git-based workflow management.
Excellent communication skills; comfortable translating business needs into technical designs.
Desirable Attributes
SnowPro Advanced Architect or SnowPro Core certification.
Exposure to Kafka, AWS S3/Fargate, or Azure Data Factory for real-time ingestion.
Familiarity with data-privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and PII-masking strategies.
Experience integrating mainframe (DB2 z/OS) or legacy VSAM data into cloud warehouses.
